Inspiration
We wanted to do something which involves both software and hardware and also music related. So we came up with the idea of a giant piano.
What it does
You step on the piano to play it. The signal from the vibration sensors integrated into the piano is converted into musical notes. The signals are send through bluetooth to our android app which visualizes the sounds. It can also be connected to a desktop app through MIDI.
How I built it
We cut pieces of wood and used a red carpet. Just a usual hackathon.
Challenges I ran into
Integration between software and hardware. The bluetooth communication. The Android threads and other sync problems.
Accomplishments that I’m proud of
It finally works. Managed to implement the visualizer during the last hour of the hack
What I learned
First time we worked with Android and bluetooth connections. Also we learned how to cut the wood… Google should hire us for that.
What’s next for Ardupiano
A bunch of LEDs added to the piano. A learn mode on the app which shows you how to play particular songs. A frequency adjuster for the notes from the app.
